Shure’s Beta 53 headworn microphone
Shure Thing
Be sure to check out Shure’s latest addition to the audio industry. The new BETA 53 headworn mic is a completely unobtrusive, lightweight unit that’s extraordinarily big on performance. It features a subminiature microphone element (5.8 mm in diameter), an omnidirectional polar pattern and a frequency response extending from 20 to 20,000 Hz. Designed for comfort and ease, it includes a pair of interchangeable frequency response caps and two termination options (a Tini Q-G connector, or tinned leads). The mic is secured with a modular headband and is equipped with a detachable boom mount to facilitate precise positioning. Available in both black and beige, the unit is corrosion-resistant, easy to clean, and comes with its own carrying case. Shure dealers are currently selling this item at a suggested price of $484.65 (with the tinned leads), or at $509.65 (with the Q-G connector). Bend & Stretch
Wish your mics were as flexible as the body of a snake? You might consider looking into the new Flex Series by Earthworks. This new line proudly boasts great sound, easy-to-use cardioid pickup, and a range of flexible neck lengths. With a natural on-axis sound quality (uniform up to 90 degrees), these mics are perfect for acoustic guitars, choirs, podiums and those hard to reach places such as drums. Included in the series is the extra flexible FM720 ($400). While it would be ideal as a hanging choir mic, the FM720 can also be used to mike a group of musicians with minimal visibility. Next in line is the FM500 ($400). At half a meter, its swan-like neck can be adjusted with very little handling noise. This mic fits inconspicuously into an instrumental ensemble, or in front of a choir to capture intimate sound. Last, but not least, is the litter of the bunch, known as the FM360 ($400). Despite its miniscule size, the FM360 is powerfully equipped to dominate in situations requiring a low profile. It works beautifully with tall podiums, pianos, drums and guitar amplifiers. For additional information on the Flex Series, or any other Earthworks products, call 603-654-MICS, or visit their website at www.earthworks.com.

ConfettiSTORM
Pink, Blue & Purple Rain
Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s...confetti! There’s a brand new way to make confetti fly further, longer, and faster through the air, and it’s called ConfettiSTORM. The device is a self-contained launcher that expels confetti at very high speeds, creating a storm effect. ConfettiSTORM’s patented system includes its own vacuum and confetti storage compartment. Its unique design allows only light matter into the vacuum, eliminating the chance for non-confetti debris to enter the airstream. Manufactured by ConfettiWERKS, a technological leader in confetti effects devices, (cannons, launchers, and of course, confetti) ConfettiSTORM is stellar for theater, theme parks, concerts, nightclubs and special events. Perks include high-performance delivery, remote control operation and easy mounting to lighting trusses. ConfettiSTORM is priced at $999, and is available for leasing, renting, or purchasing.
