Ghoulish Effects
Need to blacken out a tooth? Create blotches, wounds and other unsightly features for a less-than-comely character? Bob Kelly’s special effect makeup is tailor-made for a gamut of effects, from simulating scars and wounds to spinning out facial hair, like moustaches and beards. Black Out Tooth Color ($3 for a 1/4 oz. tube) is available in two shades: black, to eradicate the tooth of your choice, or brown, to conjure up the ravages of dental decay. Notable waxes offered by Bob Kelly are Molding Wax ($2 for 1/2 oz tube), which is highly conducive for manufacturing facial wounds out of high quality microcrystalline wax, and Eyebrow Cover/Moustache Wax ($2.25 for 1/2 oz. tube), which can be used to temporarily blot out eyebrows or wax

Clowning Around

Mehron’s Clown Makeup
But before you think Halloween is all about fear, the clowns are here. Mehron Inc., which outfits the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, has a slew of clown makeup for your onstage Bozos and hobos. The “Happy Hobo,” in fact, is one of three common clown looks you can learn to achieve yourself through step-by-step instructions in the Mehron catalogue (along with the “Whiteface” clown and the “Auguste” clown). Mehron Clown White, Original Clown White Lite and Clown Pink are the staple products for coloring the full face,
with White Lite getting its name from utilizing a lanolin base—requiring lesser volume for the same whiteness. Mehron Clown White, the most popular product, is available in .7 oz. ($2.50), 2 oz. ($4), 8 oz. ($9) and 16 oz. ($16) sizes. Clown Pink comes only in a 2 oz. container ($4), while Original Clown White Lite is available in 2 oz. ($4) and 8 oz. ($9) sizes. You should expect six to 12 full faces per ounce, and seven to 14 full faces for Original Clown White Lite.

If you’re looking to fasten on those nutty clown noses and bald caps, Mehron offers two different types of adhesive: Latex Liquid is available in 1 oz. ($3.50), 4.5 oz. ($6.95), 9 oz. ($10.95), 16 oz. ($16.95) and gallon ($75) sizes, while Spirit Gum Adhesive is available in the same size denominations at the above mentioned prices, plus a .25 oz. ($1.95) size for small jobs. For more information about these and other makeup products offered by Mehron, contact the company at 100 Red Schoolhouse Road, Chestnut Ridge, NY 10977; telephone: 800-332-9955; fax: 888-88-MAKEUP; website: www.mehron.com.
