COCKROACH THEATRE NAMES RYAN REASON IMAGE DIRECTOR

August 2, 2012, Las Vegas, NV — Cockroach Theatre officially announced today that esteemed local photographer and artist Ryan Reason has been named Image Director. Reason joins the experienced creative and brand management team set to push downtown theatre to a new level as they prepare to move into their permanent home in the Art Square Theatre.

“Simply put, Ryan Reason has emerged over the past five years as one of the most interesting, original photographers in Las Vegas. On top of that, he has a unique understanding of the language of theatre and how to capture a play’s essence in one stunning image,” said Artistic Director Erik Amblad. “As we open our new theatre, we are committed not only to creating great theatre, but also to reaching out to new audiences throughout the region. Ryan Reason and his talents will be indispensable in that effort.”

As a key team leader on the Cockroach Theatre Brand Management Team, Reason’s primary focus as Image Director will be to capture all of the images that will represent Cockroach Theatre, including all of the images for the upcoming season of shows; Reason’s responsibilities also include fostering the development of photographers interested in theatrical photography.

Theatre audiences may know Ryan Reason’s work best from his production images for Cockroach Theatre’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea; Born and Raised Productions’s Art as well as The Chairs; and Insurgo Theater Movement’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Machinal. In 2012, Ryan also had the honor of being one of the featured artists in St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Heart Shaped Public Art for Awareness and Fundraising, unveiled in May of this year at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

Ryan Reason is known throughout Downtown Las Vegas as a leader in the 18b Arts District. He continues to serve as General Manager of The Arts Factory and as Studio Manager of Studio West Photography, positions he has held since June of 2008.

“I think that live performance is one of the few arts that has not been properly represented in the 18b Arts District. I love that this fact will soon be a thing of the past with the emergence of Cockroach Theatre and the Art Square Theatre,” said Reason when asked why he considered joining the team. “As a photographer, a proponent of all things downtown, and a fan of theater, I knew I could bring my aptitudes and passions to this project, and help Cockroach Theatre's plans to elevate the perception of local theater in Las Vegas. I’m proud to be a ‘roach.”

Ryan Reason is currently hard at work developing images for Nurture by Johnna Adams, coming soon to the Art Square Theatre as Cockroach’s inaugural show. He is also developing the image campaign for the soon-to-be-announced Season of Plays.
