L-Acoustics Kiva/SB15m arrays flank the Brackett Theatre’s stage

Oklahoma University renovated its Rupel J. Jones Fine Arts Center, including its 570-seat main theatre, the newly-renamed Elsie C. Brackett Theatre. OU is the only public university with a School of Musical Theatre, so to ensure they had great sound for all the performances, AVL project coordinator BOLD-Multimedia turned to Oklahoma City-based Skylark AV, which designed and installed an L-Acoustics Kiva loudspeaker system.

Gand Sound Installations outfitted the Hemmens Theatre in Elgin, Ill., with a wide array of Nexo and Yamaha gear, including a Nexo line array speaker system, Yamaha CL5 Digital Audio Console and Dante-equipped Rio stage boxes.

Timothy Bond will leave Syracuse Stage after the 2015-2016 season to take a full professor position at the University of Washington’s School of Drama. ““I am thrilled about returning to my artistic birthplace in Seattle and honored to join the distinguished faculty at the University of Washington School of Drama. I look forward to sharing my passion for social activism and inclusive theatre with the next generation of artistic leaders and global citizens," Bond said in a statement. Robert Hupp will follow Bond as artistic director at Syracuse Stage.

The New Works initiative at Westport Country Playhouse will develop new plays and musicals through workshop and reading opportunities. First up is Out of the Mouths of Babes by Israel Horovitz, in partnership with New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre, and The Rivals, with book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg, music by Stephen Weiner, based on the 1775 play by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.

Lookingglass Theatre holds elections for artistic director every three years, and this time around they elected Heidi Stillman, an ensemble member at the theatre. Stillman has served as Artistic Director of New Work since 2004 and replaces Andrew White, who moves into the newly-created role of Connectivity and Engagement Director.

Yamaha’s new Tio1608-D I/O rack and NY64-D expansion card bring Dante compatibility to their TF Series of digital mixers. The Tio1608-D offers a QuickConfig mode, which auto patches the inputs and outputs without requiring a computer to configure. The NY64-D expansion card, increases the capability of the TF series to route audio over a Dante network and allows allows for the transmission and reception of up to 64 input channels and 64 output channels of uncompressed 48kHz/24bit digital audio data. Yamaha also updated the firmware for the TF Series, including such new features as additional QuickPro Presets, easier access to EQ on channels and more.
