Lucas Hnath won the award—the first given in six years—for his play The Christians. Now playing at Playwrights Horizons in NYC, the play was originally produced by Actors Theatre of Louisville, who submitted it for the prize.

This morning PLASA announced that its European and American branches are splitting, and will again function as independent organizations. In a brief, unsigned, statement the organization said that the “move will allow the associations to set strategic direction to meet their individual demands,” let each market focus on activities that are most relevant to its members and “allow for more agility and decisiveness.” The merger of the North American and European branches only started in 2011, after a majority of ESTA members (as the North American branch was known before it merged with PLASA) voted to approve the merger in 2010. An aritst’s rendition of the new Rosemary Artist Housing Project for Florida Studio TheatreErnest Kretzmer contributed $500,000 so the Florida Studio Theatre could build five townhouses to house visiting artists and interns.

The interior of the Langston Hughes Auditorium, with lighting feature Chauvet Professional fixtures.Shadow Box Design recently upgraded the theatrical and architectural lighting in the Langston Hughes Auditorium in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, and they installed a rig made of mostly Chauvet Professional fixtures, including Rogue RH1 Hybrid moving fixtures and COLORado Batten 72 Tours.

Tim Dang won the Zelda Fichandler Award in honor of his work with East West Players.The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation chose Tim Dang for the 2015 Zelda Fichandler Award—which recognizes an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through imaginative, brave work in theatre—thanks to his work as artistic director of East West Players.

The second annual Theatre Bay Area Awards will be held Monday, Nov. 16 and will recognize excellence among the more than 300 professional productions the adjudication panel reviewed. Theatreworks in the South Bay was the most recognized theatre company this year, with 29 nominations.
