Festival Actor and Adjudicator Tony Carter teaches a workshop during the 2015 SUU/USF Shakespeare Competition.More than 3,200 students from 110 schools in six states attended Utah Shakespeare Festival’s Shakespeare Competition, a weekend of competition and learning for high school performers and technicians. Awards included scholarships to Southern Utah University, classes at Utah Shakespeare Festival and gift certificates at theatrical supply houses.

Elation Sets to Impress at LDI

The Elation Platinum HFX will make its North American debut at LDI this month.LDI will mark the American debut of many new products from Elation. They will show off their Platinum FLX hybrid moving head, make the North American debut of the Platinum HFX and Satura Profile (an LED-based CMY color-mixing moving head) and the ACL Roller, a unique moving head effects fixture. They will also use the occasion to launch the E Touch, a new generation lighting controller for the iPad, the new, easy-to-use 6-way RDM/DMX data splitter, named the RDMX6S—and several other surprises. ETC Preps Products for LDI

In Memoriam: Donald R. Seawell, 1912-2015

Donald R. Seawell,Donald R. Seawell was founder and chairman emeritus of Denver Center for the Performing Arts. As a lawyer in New York City he represented such theatre legends as Noel Coward, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, among others. He was the first to bring the RSC in its current form to the USA, directing and presenting The Hollow Crown on Broadway and on tour in 1962. He moved to Denver in the ‘60s where he was the prime mover in creating the not-for-profit Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA), which is now a four-block, 12-acre site that today is managed by the City of Denver. Now called the Denver Performing Arts Complex, it is home to 10 performance venues that feature ballet, symphony, opera, theatre and musicals. He was also instrumental in the creation of the NEA.
