The Theatre Museum will honor Stagedoor Manor this year with their Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts Education. Stagedoor Manor at a gala on April 30. Stagedoor Manor is a summertime training environment for youth performers and features such illustrious alums as Natalie Portman. Also at the gala the Theatre Museum will give Frederick O. Olsson the Career Achievement Award and Don B. Wilmeth, Emeritus Professor of Theatre and of English at Brown University, will be awarded the Theatre History Preservation Award. The Theatre Museum will also recognize Theatre Communications Group with the Award for Distinguished Service to the Theatre.

STAGEDOOR MANOR ALUM GORDON GREENBERG TO DIRECT ONSTAGE PRESENTATION

New York, NY (February 1, 2012) – Stagedoor Manor, the country’s premiere summertime training ground for young performers, will be honored with the 2012 Theatre Museum Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts Education, it was announced today.  The award will be presented at a gala ceremony, taking place the evening on Monday, April 30 at The Player’s Club (16 Gramercy Park South).  The evening's program will be directed by Stagedoor Manor alum, writer and director Gordon Greenberg (Working, Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris). Broadway conductor Kimberly Grigsby (SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, Spring Awakening), previous Stagedoor Manor staff member and Visiting Artist, will musically direct.

Past recipients of the prestigious honor, which is given each year to an organization that exhibits consistent excellence in theatre arts education, have included The American Theater Wing, the Frank Sinatra High School for the Arts, the Theater Development Fund Education Program, and New York University.

It was also announced that this year’s Career Achievement Award will be given to Frederick O. Olsson, the Theatre History Preservation Award will be given to Don B. Wilmeth, Emeritus Professor of Theatre and of English at Brown University, and the Award for Distinguished Service to the Theatre will be given to The Theatre Communications Group.
